Tribute & Message From The Family

On November 13, 2012, at 9:30 am, God in His infinite power and wisdom and according to His plan, called Maxie Phillips, 75 of Charlotte, North Carolina to his heavenly home to rejoice forever. He was born February 21, 1937 in Lee County, South Carolina, the second of six siblings of Eddie and Corinna Lunn Phillips. Maxie was educated in the Darlington and Lee County schools and relocated to Charlotte in 1965. "Mack", as he was known to many was employed with General Motors Corporation and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Maxie met his soulmate, Mary Frances Johnson in 1955 and they were united in holy matrimony in 1964 and from this union came four loving children. Maxie was raised in a Christian home and was introduced to Christ at an early age by his parents. Growing up, he attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the first organized Youth Choir under the direction of the late Ellis Sweeney. Maxie loved his family, relatives, and friends and eagerly looked forward to attending events and gatherings where he would ask Shelby Phillips Mack to sing his favorite song, "Heaven On My Mind". He also cherished time spent with his friend, Brother Benjamin when he was home on the Cypress. Maxie had many hobbies that included raising pet rabbits, gardening and fishing. He enjoyed both local and major league baseball. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. Along with his parents, Maxie was preceded in death by three siblings, Margie Phillips Shields, Deborah Toney and Elmore Phillips. Those surviving who have shared the joys and sorrows of Maxie "Mack" Phillips' life and to cherish his memories include his wife, Mary Frances Phillips, four children, Danny Phillips of Chesapeake, VA, Michael (Janette) Phillips of Charlotte, NC, Maxine Phillips of Charlotte, NC and Anthony (Jamila) Phillips, Sr. of Rock Hill, SC; his brother, Cornelius (Sarah) Phillips of Hartsville, SC; his sister, Ella (Laben) Sitgraves of Rock Hill, SC; an aunt, Josephine Lunn of Teaneck, NJ; five sisters-in-law, Nettie Butler, Geniva Johnson, and Ella Mae Johnson all of Charlotte, NC, Tressie (Willie) Brailey of Greensboro, NC, and Carolyn Wright of Washington, DC; one special cousin, Epour Phillips of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Tiffany, Antaria, Anthony, Jr., Andrew and Austin; one great grandchild, Little Miss Kennedi and a host of many close cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
