Obituary "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing…" II Timothy 4:6-8 On April 22, 2013 at 2:00pm, Julius Allen Augustus, Jr. took the hand of the Lord and went into eternal rest after a long illness. Julius was born February 2, 1948 in Harleyville, South Carolina a son of the late Julius Henderson and Alberta Hollman Augustus. He attended the public schools of Darlington County, South Carolina. He graduated from Latimer High School in Latta, South Carolina, where he was valedictorian of the class. He went on to further his education at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Agriculture. He was joined in holy matrimony to Margaret F. Bethea in 1966 and to this union were born two beautiful children, Kenneth and Saundra. Julius loved the Lord and was reared in a God fearing home. He became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Latta, South Carolina at an early age. He was baptized in 1963 by the late Reverend Dr. O.E. Jackson. He was a person who enjoyed life and he lived his to the fullest. He loved to play cards, watch sports, and spend time with his family in his free time. Julius was a very hard-working and intelligent man. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for many years. After leaving there, he became an entrepreneur. He enjoyed spending time in Hartsville, South Carolina prior to his illness. Those who knew and loved him will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Julius Allen Augustus, Jr. is his son Kenneth (Wanda) Augustus of Hartsville, SC; a daughter, Saundra Augustus of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Ronald ( Deloris) Augustus of Dillon, SC, Charles (Liz) Augustus of Detroit, MI, Sherman (Sylvia) Augustus of Florence, SC; two sisters, Jackie (Nathaniel) Williams of Annapolis, MD, Valeria Spells of Raleigh, NC; eight brothers-in-law, Floyd (Gwen) Bethea and Brandon both of Fl, Frank (Claudette) Bethea of Charlotte, NC, Robert (Sue) Bethea of Scott Plain, NJ, Leonard (Dot) Bethea of Fort Mills, SC, Joseph (Anita) Bethea of Hillside, NJ, Lawrence (Gladys) Bethea of Durham, NC, and William (Alice) Bethea of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Porter) Cureton of Cary, NC and Annie (Art) Matthews of Fortworth, FL; three grandchildren, Jessica Augustus of Darlington, SC, Jasmine Govan and Jaswan Govan both of Hartsville, SC; one great grandchild, Jaylen Augustus of Darlington, SC; two aunts, Emma Odom of Darlington, SC and JoAnn(Pedro) Elmore of Blackville, SC; an uncle, Nathaniel (Mary) Hollman, Jr. of Blackville, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
