Obituary "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8 Christine Slater McCoy was born in Oates, South Carolina a daughter of the late David Slater and Edna Moses. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 28, 2012. She received her early education in the public schools of Darlington County, South Carolina. She was married to the love of her life, Bishop James McCoy, Sr. on March 14, 1942. They were married for 70 years. Christine was a hard-working and dedicated woman. She began her career as a Cook for Ruth's Drive-In, where she worked for many years. After leaving there, she worked for the Rainbow Restaurant. Christine left there and became employed with Kendall's in Bethune, South Carolina until her retirement. Afterwards, she began working for Darlington County Social Service Transportation until she became ill. She worked until she was 81 years old. Christine loved the Lord and it was this love that led her to join St. John United Methodist Church. She later became a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church. She was a member of the Missionary, she was founder and President of the Usher Board, and she worked with the Youth Choir. She was also a member of the Mt. Rona Chapter #233 Order of Eastern Star. Christine was a person who took pride in everything she did. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone she met; nothing was too big or small for her to handle. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Her family meant the world to her! She not only raised her children, but also Henry McCoy and Felicia McCoy. She had several adopted children whom she loved very much. Those who knew and loved her will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by both parents and three sisters, Creola Green, Clarice Slater, and Edna Slater Redfern. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Christine Slater McCoy is her loving husband, James McCoy, Sr. of Hartsville, SC; her two sons, James (Dorothy) McCoy, Jr. and John McCoy both of Hartsville, SC; two daughters, Ardine McCoy of Hartsville, SC and Shirley (Atlas) Flanagan of Kennesaw, GA; four adopted children, Donald Harding, Bobby Harding, Tommy Harding, and Lynn Travis, 30 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
