Life's Reflections "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." II Corinthians 5:1 KJV Mr. Edward Zimmerman, Sr. the youngest of eight siblings was born in Darlington County March 2, 1935 to the parentage of the late Gibson and Annie Samuel Zimmerman, Sr. He departed this life peacefully and serenely on August 30, 2012 at McLeod Hospice in Florence, SC. It was a bittersweet occasion; bitter to us because we lost a loved one, but sweet because God saw fit to end his suffering. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools. At an early age he accepted Christ and joined the New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, SC where he served on the Usher Board. On December 24, 1955 he was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Ernestine Wingate. "Mr. Ed", as he was affectionately called, was employed as an auto diesel mechanic with Carolina International Trucking Company of Darlington, SC where he retired after twenty years of service. He was the sole owner of Zimmerman Auto Shop which he operated until his health declined. In his spare time "Mr. Ed" was an avid farmer and gave most of his produce away to the community. Surviving to cherish his legacy are his wife, Mrs. Ernestine W. Zimmerman of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Mary (William) Mitchell of Society Hill, SC, Mrs. Verna (Philemon) Gerald of Four Oaks, NC, Mrs. Mable (Leo) Jones of Grand Prairie, TX, Mrs. Lora (William) Douglas of Darlington, SC; three sons Mr. Edward Zimmerman Jr and Jerome Zimmerman of the home, Mr. Johnny (Sandra) Zimmerman of Rock Hill, SC; grandsons: LaMetrick McClain of Atlanta, GA, Jerry McClain and Adrian McClain of Society Hill, SC, Ronnie Zimmerman of Darlington, SC, and Brandon Jones of Grand Prairie, TX; granddaughter Miss Brittany Douglas of Darlington, SC; two great grandsons: Jerrian McClain of Highpoint NC and Jerry McClain Jr. of Columbia SC; one sister Mrs. Annie Mae Antrum of Darlington, SC; one brother Mr. David Zimmerman of Sacramento, CA; four sister-in-laws; Mrs. Ida Zimmerman, Society Hill, SC, Mrs. Deloris (Sam) Graham, Ms. Dora W. McCullough; Mrs. Betty W. McCall, all of Darlington, SC; one brother-in-law Mr. Edward Wingate of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, two sons preceded Edward in death: Mr. Harold Graham and Virgil Leroy Zimmerman and five siblings.
