This poor man cried and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 34:6 Elve Williams was born on April 11, 1924, in Lee County, SC a son of the late Minon and Blanch Stover Williams. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County and joined the US Army on July 20th, 1943 and served honorably during the Second World War and was discharged on May 13th, 1947. He was married to the late Lillie Mae Thomas and together they moved to New York City in search of a better life. Elve was a hard worker and family man. He worked for many years with the New York Port Authority as a supervisor until his retirement in 1984. Surviving to cherish the memories of Elve are his two daughters, Brenda Burgos of Englewood, NJ and Linda Williams of Bronx, NY. Two sons, Emory Williams of Oakland Ca. and George Williams of Madison Ala. One sister, Josephine Alexander and one brother, Benny Williams, both of Brooklyn, NY. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren. His very special sweet baby, the last great grandchild, "Denvah." A lifelong partner, Carrie Turner and a special care taker, Betty Russell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other very dear friends.
