Obituary "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8 Gloria Jean Ponds-Price was born June 23, 1970 in Darlington County, South Carolina a daughter of Margie A. Hammond and Grady Ponds, Jr. She graduated from McBee High School, with the Class of 1988 and later continued her education at the University of South Carolina. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Coker College in 2001 and obtained a Master's in Technology from Walden University in 2004. She was currently working toward a Doctorate from Cambridge University. Gloria was a faithful member of New Hope United Methodist Church beginning at an early age and continued until her untimely death on June 17, 2013, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. She held several offices within the church the latest being the Mt. Beulah/ New Hope charge delegate to the South Carolina Annual Conference. Gloria worked in the Lee County Public school system at Lower Lee and Bishopville Primary for 10 years as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. She loved her students and her students loved her, with many parents commending her for helping set their kids on the right path. The first loves of her life was her three children Shiheem, Sheldon, and Shelby. She never missed a week of stating on her Facebook page that she "loved her babies" and you could always hear her cheering them on or fussing with an official at their ball games. She recently married her best friend, James O. Price, on June 1, 2013. She stated to Shelby that her last 16 days were some of the happiest days of her life. She was preceded in death by her fraternal grandparents Grady "Great" and Lucille Ponds, Sr. as well as her maternal grandparents James "Jim" and Geneva Hammonds. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Gloria Jean Ponds-Price is her husband, James O. Price of McBee, SC; her daughter, Shelby Ponds of McBee, SC; her two sons, Shiheem Ponds and Sheldon Ponds both of McBee, SC; her father, Grady Ponds, Jr. of Bethune, SC; her mother, Margie (Gregory Gaston)Hammond of McBee, SC; her two brothers, Reverend Grady Bernard (Rhonda) Ponds of Hopkins, SC and Gregory Bryan Ponds of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Lisa Hammonds of McBee, SC; a mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jimmy and Veronica Jenkins, Sr. of Sumter, SC; a brother-in-law, Jimmy L. Jenkins, Jr. of Sumter, SC; four nephews, Channen Ponds of Killeen, TX, Chaddwick and Chandler Ponds both of Hopkins, SC and Shane Hammonds of McBee, SC; two nieces, Chelsea Ponds of Hopkins, SC and Shana Smith of McBee, SC, eight uncles, six aunts, several great uncles and great aunt and a host of cousins and very dear friends.
