Obituary Robert Leroy Harris, Sr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland a son of the late Archie Stansbury and Lillian Gilbert. He was educated in the public schools of Washington, DC. He later enlisted in the United States Army from July 1950 until September 1953. Robert earned several medals while serving with the company of the 24th Division of the United States Army. He received a combat infantry badge, a Korean Service Medal, and a Bronze Campaign Star. After an Honorable Discharge, he became employed with the National Art Gallery of Washington, DC. Robert was a dedicated and hard worker, receiving several certificates of dedicated service. He worked here for 25 years until his retirement. He later moved to Hartsville, South Carolina where he worked several jobs in the local area: Gowen Cheverolet, R & B Motors, etc… In his early life, Robert entered the Christian faith with membership and service to his Lord and Master at the Shaw United Methodist Church in Washington, DC. After moving to the Hartsville area he continued his Christian journey with membership at Kingsville United Methodist Church and later moving his membership to Mt. Calvary AME Church. There Robert served prayerfully as a devoted member and worshiper. He served on several organizations in the church, the Usher Board, the church choir, and the Sons of Allen. He was also a member of the American Legion. Robert married Patricia Sweetenburg Addison on August 12, 2011. This was a loving and beautiful relationship. He was devoted to his wife and her family. He also was a community oriented person. He was always involved in efforts to make life better for all. All those who knew and loved him will miss him dearly. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Robert Leroy Harris, Sr. is his wife, Patricia A Harris of McBee, SC; his son, Robert Leroy Harris, Jr. of Washington, DC; his three daughters, Roberta Harris Johnson, Adrienne (David) Harris Brown, and Barbara Harris Brooks all of Washington, DC; four step sons, James B Addison of Bennettsville, SC, Joe (Melissa) Addison of Sumter, SC, Isaiah (Trena) Addison and Tyrone Addison both of Hartsville, SC; a step daughter, Lakeisha M Addison of Hartsville, SC; a brother, Russell Harris of Washington, DC; a nephew, Bernard Harris;a sister-in-law, Elizabeth V. Harris, and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
